It is not that is has been awful or anything... but is has been kind of hard and boring. My hubby works from home - he changed jobs in the school year and this was the first summer of this... and well, it sucked. It's not that I don't LOVE to be with him, because I do, I love him to the ends of the earth.... but having four rowdy kids in the house all summer, while he tries to work, has been trying at best. He is on the phone a lot, and my two littles don't quite understand that he is off limits. So everyone has been a bit grouchy. I have tried to take them out as often as I can, but I live in North Texas - so it is 100+ degrees most of the time, and there is just so much one can take of that! We also had to postpone our Disneyland trip because of hubby's job... so we have really not done all that much.
SOOOO.... I am not entirely unready for school to start. A statement that I am sure to regret midweek our first week in...but right now, August is not really making me sad...so I am linking up with Farley to celebrate it with a new Currently.
Does anyone have a computer with the pop off tablet screen? It sounds great, I just don't know anyone who has one and I want to know if the reality seems as good as the idea.
And my must haves...
- Scentos - I love them and right now they are .30 at our Michaels! I have a ton of them, but I bought more.
- Ticonderoga Pencils - I think they are the only pencils that actually sharpen without fail. I hate dollar store pencils with my whole heart. I buy them on amazon.com for about $15.00 of 96 - http://www.amazon.com/Dixon-Ticonderoga-Woodcase-Pencil-13872/dp/B00125Q75Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375476541&sr=8-1&keywords=ticonderoga+pencils. I kind of hoard them.
- I am so excited to use this super cute activity from Linda Kamp this fall.... Love that is incorporates math from day 1! http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Math-About-Me-Getting-to-Know-You-Math-Craftivity-326091 I love EVERYTHING that lady makes!
Hello from a fellow Texan! Your kids sound so sweet! Mine are teens and just go off in separate rooms. Although they do get along pretty well, they're teens. I haven't heard about that kind of computer, but it sounds intriguing.

Oh girl, sorry to hear that. It stinks when you are trying to keep everyone happy. Hopefully getting back into a routine will help?
ReplyDeleteAnd scentos? My favorite! I have them all, well except the licorice, yuck! Good luck getting prepared for BTS.
P.S. Glad to have found your cute little blog!

I love scentos! When I went to Michaels last week they only had 2 left so I bought them! I did manage to find a pack at Wal-Mart but they definitely weren't .30! I'm going to the blogger meet up too and I'm so EXCITED! I can't wait to finally meet everyone! Hang in there!

The Caffeinated Teacher
My husband and I worked together for the first three years we were dating...definitely a relationship "don't!" We enjoy each other so much more, now that we work in separate schools.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am super jealous that y'all are having a Texas Blogger Meet Up! Wish I could crash it!
Thanks for following me on Bloglovin'!

How are you with PBL?? We are transforming into a PBL school this year, and none of us have ANY clue about it! We have a full day of training on it the week before in service and some more trainings that week...but YIKES I'm scared! :) I am SO BUMMED I have to miss the meet up. I seriously can't get over it. I am so jealous every time I read about another state's meet up, and now I can't make ours! Argh. lol.

Teach On.
Hi Gayla ( I think that is such a beautiful name BTW) -
DeleteI am super lucky to be in a district that has decided to sort of "step" gently into PBL. They asked for people who were interested (I was) and let us write proposals. We are being paid to work on four projects a piece over the summer (and they are giving us money to support the projects!). I am pretty excited about it - but it is a bit overwhelming. We are using a website called Engage to work on them and I bought this book -
http://www.amazon.com/Elementary-Grades-Hallermann-Larmer-Mergendoller/dp/0974034312/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1375644791&sr=1-1&keywords=pbl+in+the+elementary+grades
from Amazon. It has been super helpful. Just one day of training is not very much! We have worked together for days... and we are still shaky. We will try our projects this year and hopefully build interest from the other teachers for the following year. I love my school district! I would love to share my ideas with you when I have them all down on paper and I will write a lot about them on my blog I suspect! Please let me know if you want to discuss them or hear what we are doing!
