And I have so many ideas I am actually starting to write plans.... argh! I have been a TPT buying machine.

I thought the same thing was probably happening for some of you, so I put everything in my store on sale for 20%, and marked my two very favorite products down a full 50%!

She is the Great-Great-Niece of Rosie the Riveter. Her greatest dream is to become a great engineer. She creates out of things she finds in the trash. But she hides it all each night because she is afraid of being laughed out. It had happened before...

But she receives a visit from a very special relative and everything changes. This book is INCREDIBLE. Rosie is likable and fun and is a fabulous example of perseverance. She learns that mistakes are part of the process and helps students to see that too. I am planning to use this book to set the tone for our next school year.

I wrote a week long book study/STEM unit on the book and would love to have a few readers to help me make sure it is free of mistakes and give me advice on what needs to be changed or improved. If you would be willing to proof read this, I would be happy to send it to you as is, and then again in final form.
If you have not read this book, you NEED to.

It.Will.Change.Your.Life.
I'm not exaggerating. I have applied it to my own life, to my mothering, my marriage, my teaching, my everything. And the book has a sister...

This book has a million ways to use this thinking in your classroom.

The main idea of the book is that you can have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. A growth mindset is having the belief that you can always improve, intelligence and talent are not fixed and with work and time you can improve yourself in any area. It is the belief that potential is never really reached - you can always take it further. A fixed mindset is having the belief that we are all born with a set intelligence (IQ) and sort of "bundle of potential" and we can't really ever get past that. You are good at math or you're not, you are a good singer or you are not.

The first time I read the book, I bawled. I had recently had a special education meeting about my son and received a report of his IQ. It is low. We knew that. But under the score, the information printed stated that we should expect that this IQ will remain within a few points for the rest of his life. DEFEATING. While reading this book I felt an enormous surge of hope and excitement. I know that where he gets in life may not be in the typical range, but his potential is NOT PREDETERMINED. Holy wow! It has changed the way we look at everything with him (and my other kids too), and we addressed this wording in his last meeting and had some of it changed. It was like a weight off our shoulders.

I recently went to a training and the presenter talked about the power of YET. That we might not be good at something yet, but that doesn't mean we can't be. What an amazingly powerful message for kids when they start in our class. If we teach them to think in terms of YET, then they are always striving to get there. I was so excited about it, that I went home and started working on this. I am so excited to use this in the fall.
I am busiest I have ever been in my teaching career. I have changed schools and I am teaching a very new and very different school. I am in the same district, but our district went out on a limb and built a new STEM Academy. I absolutely love it 98% of the time. It has been incredibly challenging and incredibly interesting. I come home from work a whole new level of exhausted, but I believe in what we are doing, so it is good exhaustion.

I have wanted to post, but then I get distracted by this or that. This year has been overwhelming. But I want to get back to blogging, I feel it makes me a better teacher. My blog title seems kind of wrong these days as no longer have a "classroom". Even the pink and cute doesn't feel so much like my teaching anymore. I am thinking it is time for a blog make-over. Something STEM-y. Any ideas?

It is hard to explain how awesome my school is. It is open concept, very tech-ed out and beautiful. Here is a little video showing a glimpse of it.

This past year has been a lot of trial and error. We have 3 second grade teachers and 3 third grade teachers in our "house". We share an area that has 1 giant "classroom" - that can be made into 2 by closing a white board wall, a giant science lab that can also be made into 2, and a big open area in the middle with small kind of partially walled off areas. You can see some in the video. We have tried and retried a lot of different teaching models - and we feel like we have a good idea of what we are doing for next year!

We are a K-8 campus which is actually my favorite part. I have never worked with middle school teachers and they are awesome!! We work in different ways and I feel like I have learned so much watching them. It is also great to see the continuation of what we do. Many of the 7th and 8th graders were in my class in 1st grade and it was so great to see them everyday and see how they were doing. We are a PBL school and have some of the coolest opportunities to share. I love seeing what PBL looks like in kinder one day and in 8th the next.

Working here has made me think so much about teaching and education in general. Our principals are amazing and truly listen to us and think through things with us. They make decisions that make sense for kids. I love that. I will be better at blogging this coming year. I am so excited to see what is in store for us!

But right now I am just really happy to have SUMMER!
Next year I will be embarking on a new adventure - our new STEM school! I am so stinking excited sometimes I don't know what do! We will have more technology than I know what to do with and I have been trying to put together ideas on how to use it. My friend Sara and I presented at our district tech conference this week and we put together this little list of our favorites. Check out the link below to access it. What do you use and love?

I have been using PowerPoint to create it and then make copies for some parents and email others. It is boring and annoying, but has some value. Parents have a digital copy of what we are doing and have a copy of spelling words etc. We are so close to the end, I am sticking with the plan for the rest of this year but next year I am excited to have found a new way - Smore.

Smore.com is a website that has a completely easy-to-use formatted newsletter to send out without all the work of making your own. It has places set up for pictures, lots of different themes and fonts to use and is super easy to access. You can link anything inside of your newsletters, including homework, websites, whatever. But the best thing about it (other than being FREE) is that it takes seconds to use and can be accessed on any device (phone, computer, iPad etc).

You can add as many pictures as you want - which is really cool if you want to put in pix of kids work, or something you are doing. It is web based so as long as parents have the link they can go back to it whenever they want. I think I am in love! I think this would be an awesome site for kids to use for a class newspaper as well!
My kids are so ready. I am so ready. So things are getting a little wonky. The volume is UP! Attention spans are tanking. So it is time to pull out some seriously engaging stuff to keep us floating to the finish line.

Enter - ChatterPix. Do you know this app? It is seriously the easiest app to use EVER. It's free. You can download it on any Apple device. It's fun and motivating in a serious way.

You kids can take a picture of ANYONE (or anyTHING for the matter) and create a talking biography or report. They literally just have to save the picture to the camera roll, upload it to the app, use their finger to draw a little dotted line across the mouth of the picture (or where a mouth could be), and press the microphone icon and speak. My kiddos seriously went crazy for it. They wrote biographies about a famous person and then read it into the app. Even my kids who hate writing or struggle, had a very easy and fun time with this.

One of my kids made a ChatterPix video of our town mayor. I sent it to him and he loved it so much that he put it on his website. She was so thrilled!

Give it a try if your things are getting a little dicey in your room as well. You can also do an app smash up with ChatterPix and Aurasma. You can upload the video you create into Aurasma and then link it to a photo or drawing of the person and create a talking biography gallery! The kids can use iPads or other devices to walk around and focus the app on the photo or drawing and see it come to life! So fun!
I went to a digital fluency conference and it was truly crazy. I am kind of tech-y. I got to tech conferences a lot. I am willing to try new things and get excited about really geeky stuff.... but today I had my mind BLOWN. I spent almost all of my day learning about augmented reality and seriously I almost can't wait til morning to try this out with my kids. My own kids have been playing with it all night.

I guess this stuff has been around for a long time... but I didn't know about it. I actually did hear about it a few weeks ago but didn't have the time to really work with it like I did today. It is freaky cool! And SUPER easy...! What what? Oh and it's all free...

One app is called AR Flashcards. Totally free app. You can download it on any platform. You simply download the viewer (takes just a few seconds), go to their website - arflashcards.com, print out some flashcards and you are ready. You hold the viewer up to the flashcards and the images POP off the the page is 3D awesomeness. They move around and make noises. Seriously!

Now, I am not even going to venture a guess as to how they do this, but holy moly, I am glad they did. This particular app is a little young for my second graders, but you can bet I ran the cards off my own little ones!

The next app we used was called colAR. Free again. It is a coloring app. You again, visit the website and download and print their coloring pages. Once colored, you view your creation through the app and they JUMP off the page and come to life. Like the birds eat worms and the fish blow bubbles. It literally takes seconds to download, and your kids think you are a magician!

Watch this video!

It turns out that there a LOTS of these apps. They make Valentines cards and games and all kinds of things. And while I thought these were AH-mazing... they are maybe more fun than educational. So I was beyond excited to see the last app in action.

It is called Aurasma and I have actually heard things about it and have had the app downloaded for a while. But, I haven't really used it. Today our presenters gave us time to actually use it and create an Aura of our own and I CAN NOT stop thinking of how many ways it can be used. The FREE app layers a flashcard, or image with a video or another image, so when you hold the app over your image - the video or second image comes up. For example, if you hold the app over a student's self portrait in an art display, their photo will show up so you know who made it. Or if you hold the app over a flashcard the answer may come up. You can make vocabulary cards for a unit and have a video clip come up of what the word means. You can download videos or create your own. You can even make a video about how to do a problem. Hold the app over an image of a math problem and have a video explanation come up. I am thinking truly interactive word walls, self check stations, vocabulary centers....just think of how freaking amazing this could be for ELL's - image of the word dolphin, video of a dolphin swimming with the word pronounced.

We made Auras in a few minutes and I imagine with time it will only take seconds once you have picked your images. The only thing you really need to know is that you have to upload your overlay first - meaning whatever you want to show when you click on the image is where you start. You upload a video or image and then select it in the app. As soon as you do that it will prompt you to hold the app over the image you want to associate with that image or video and that is IT! I can't wait to show my kids. I can't see the things they CREATE! Can you imagine this in book reports or on a report board - having a new video or image to explain every image there? Who even knows what they will come up with?

I can't wait to try it out with my kids tomorrow!

We started our lifecycles unit with insects. My kid are seriously obsessed. We have bugs everywhere in little jars and houses. I am spending the majority of this week in PBL training, so I am a little scared to see what is sharing our space when I return on Thursday. As long as we don't have lice, I guess I will be okay with it.

I bought some ladybug larva. Of all the bugs I know, I like them best. They don't bite or sting, and aren't especially creepy. They don't stink or spray anything...major pluses in my book. I love how different they look as larva than adults. They are a great example of a complex lifecycle if your kids have already done the butterfly thing, as mine have.

We have had a quite a few days of no specials (no planning -gahhhr!), so we planned two straight days of ladybug fun! We worked with our bilingual pals and completed almost everything in my Ladybug Love packet. We were able to take a bunch of grades (science, ELA and math) for the end of the year. Serious bonus!

This is not my school district, but near where I live and teach. This policy seems to be getting a lot of press and the opinions are flying. It seems that most people in my area and the people running for our school board are very against this. I don't think I am.

It seems the biggest argument that people are giving is that this is not "real life". That kids will fail out of college and lose their jobs if they move into the the world with this work ethic. I get that. You have to get things done in the "real world". There are definitely high expectations at the university level. I don't want my kids to fail out or be slackers any more than the next guy, in fact, as a teacher, I probably give this more thought than most. But, I think by and large, I am in favor of this policy. Here's why.

I believe that school is not supposed to be a model of "real life" with shorter people. I believe it is more like an apprentice program. The place to LEARN the things that will one day help kids when they are adults. I believe that is a truly complex mission. It is not all about instant achievement. We scaffold our teaching, pulling away supports as new skills are learned. It is about gaining skills throughout the process, some content skills, some work habits, some social skills. But I don't necessarily believe that those occur for every person at the same time.

From my reading, I understand that there are two main ideas in this proposal:

NOT AUTOMATICALLY FAILING LATE WORK:

I believe that academic area grades should reflect true content learning. They should not be a reward or punishment or "alternative paycheck". As an educator it is my RESPONSIBILITY to make sure that my students are mastering the CONTENT and SKILLS prescribed by the state (and common sense). It is essential that parents and students know how well they are achieving those skills. If I simply give a grade based on the time something is turned in, rather than mastery of skills, then the grade is not a measure of of true knowledge, but rather a measure of time management.

Now, I also believe that time management is extraordinarily important. I believe that it is something that we have a responsibility to teach with the same amount of passion we teach our content area, but they are not one and same. Some people will get this at the same time, but others won't. One of the arguments I am reading over and over is that if a report is turned in late at a job, then the employee with lose said job. This may be true. In my experience, it has not been. I have had reasons over the years that I have turned in a report late. For example, this year my sweet father in law became very ill and passed away. I had several reports that I turned in late or forgot about during this time period. I was emotionally hurting and it affected my work negatively. I was also physically absent from my job for a time. But in my "real world", I have a compassionate employer who understands this kind of thing and gave me some time to get things done. She did not excuse the work or give me a pass, but accepted my late reports with a hug and some understanding. I guess she could have just said, YOU FAIL and fired me, but I have never experienced that kind of "real world" that people seem to be talking about on line. I may just be very blessed, but I tend to believe that the "real world" does occasionally make exceptions for late work and mistakes.

Just as we do, our students have reasons for turning in late work. We may or may not see them as valid, but they are valid to them. They are doing the difficult work of growing up. Some are dealing with incredibly difficult life circumstances, some are over committed with other responsibilities, some have no example of what that time management looks like because their parents are unemployed or have substance abuse problems or are just plain absent. Some kids are just naturally slower than others or less able to manage their time. Some don't comprehend the content in the assignment and need help that may or may not be available at home. They need help to develop these skills very intentionally. What do we do FOR students if we just give them a zero and let it go? Are we TEACHING them anything other than life is hard? So many of our students have grown to accept and expect failure. They don't have an expectation of success (much less college and a professional career), they just cease to care.

So what if we TEACH these skills instead? What if we expect that it is done NO MATTER WHAT? Even if they can't get it there on Tuesday, we still believe that mastery is achievable and important and we push that student, and love that student, and assist that student until it happens? Is that really going to make them a loser? Or it is going to build up their self confidence and hold them accountable for the work? I think we need to ask ourselves some serious questions. What is our goal? What should our goal be? If they never do the work and simply fail, what has been accomplished? What have they been taught?

LETTING THEM TEST UNTIL THEY PASS:

I believe that much of the debate around this stems from our core beliefs about why students fail. If you believe that students fail because they are lazy and don't try, and should be punished, then it makes sense that we would just give them the fail and move on. But if we believe that all people learn differently and some more quickly or slowly than others, then this new grading policy makes sense.

If a student is struggling with algebra (I am tapping into my real life experience here), then it is entirely possible that they are not even completely able to understand what they do not know yet. They can take a test and be surprised at how poorly they do. I have been there (I remember thinking I had studied well for a test and getting the test and thinking I was an idiot). Should we then just record the failing grade (as punishment that the student didn't learn it), or should we let the student keep trying until they get it? Which method is more likely to have all of our students reach mastery?

From what I understand, it will be a choice in Denton ISD. If a student wants to do better, they are given the chance to keep working until they achieve their goals. People against this seem to cite that it is similar to giving students rewards for losing, a trophy for participation. I don't see this at all (and rewarding without reason is a practice I am very against). If the student accepts the failing grade, then that is what is recorded, but they use perseverance and keep plugging away at the skills tested, then they will receive a grade based on that. To me, taking the test over and over again until they master it, seems to be a far more desirable outcome than a straight up failure. If they fail a college course, they can pay to retake it right? I would much rather them do that then just quit. Otherwise, we have "punished them" for not getting the information in our time frame, and while I guess that "teaches them" something... is it what we want to teach?

Now this is a new philosophy of grading students, and it is entirely possible it will not work out. But right now, we are failing a LOT of kids. Not all of our kids are college bound, nor should be expect them to be. Many of them will not go into the professional world. Some will choose another path. In my opinion, that is not a tragedy. We need people who are passionate about in all walks of life. In the end, that is not our choice. But I believe, as educators, we need to give them every opportunity to be successful, whatever that looks like. I applaud this district for shifting paradigms and taking a chance. I, for one, will be watching and cheering them on!

What do you think??? I think this conversation is important, please join in!
Why PBL is amazing...

This year has been my first year as a Project Based Learning teacher. Our district is beginning to implement this model of instruction throughout all grade levels and decided to first ask for volunteers. I volunteered last summer. I have to admit when I started, I did not completely understand what I was getting into. It was WAY, WAY, WAY more labor intense then I was thinking. We use the Engage model and there are a LOT of steps to the process.

One of my teammates and I have taken the journey together and there have been days along the way that we have been so damn discouraged we thought of giving up. It was messy and disorganized. We sometimes forgot steps along the way. We were frustrated. The kids were frustrated.

Each group has a little "help" sign they stand up on their tables when they need help. There were days when all of the signs where up at once, I was helping one group, Mariel was helping another and someone was tapping me on the back of the head with their help sign because we weren't fast enough. Sometimes I wanted to throw the little help signs in the trash. Sometimes I wanted to wear one around my neck.

It has taken an immense amount of planning, reorganizing, restarting, etc. to make it work. Some of our final projects never actually came to be. Some were crap. BUT.... then Friday, without warning, we noticed something amazing. There was not one "help" sign up. No one was complaining. Everyone was fully engaged and KNEW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO. It was freaking spectacular! I seriously almost cried. Our babies, understood their objective, researched and developed a project and used various types of technology to share their knowledge. They made PowerPoints, and e-books (one was bilingual!), they made Popplets and Puppet Shows and a video and THEY DID NOT NEED HELP. And they were AH-MAZING. Seriously. Every single project had every objective covered plus had the groups personality sprinkled throughout. It, of course, has been slowly happening all along, but Friday it was completely and beautifully evident that the process and skills had taken hold. They were so proud and confident and EVERY single second of hard work that we have put in this year became so worth it.

I have learned so much this year.

I have learned to talk less, listen more. I have learned that if I truly step back and let the learning come from exploration, it is so much deeper and more meaningful. I have learned that the real work is in the process, not the project. The project is the icing on the cake, but cake is good without icing too. I have learned to trust myself and trust my kids more than ever before. Kids want to learn. They are motivated by discovery. They need this. And in the end if we trust their process, they will get where they need to get without kill and drill and a gazillion worksheets and practice tests. I wish the "government" got this.

I am going to soak up my last weeks with this fabulous class. I am going to enjoy watching what else they can do. And I am sure I am going to cry like a baby when they leave. But, I am so looking forward starting this process all over again. Knowing what is really possible, starting with some experience behind me. If you have considered PBL but were nervous to start, just jump! It is so worth it!

We are spiraling back through odd and even numbers. We use Investigations in class so we are working on teams and pairs. We took advantage of the beautiful weather and went outside today and made teams and pairs with different numbers. It was a fun and easy way to show how odd plus odd equals even, even plus even equals even and odd plus even equals odd. They were able to talk about how "the odd man out" on each team could match up with the "odd man out" on the other team and no longer be out! It actually led to some great conversations and some deeper understanding I believe!

We are also learning about Economics and the assembly line. I bought this incredible packet on TPT by Amber Marker - we have had SOOOO much fun with it!

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Economics-Consumers-Producers-Goods-Specialization-Assembly-Line-415497

Today we made "trucks" out of graham crackers, frosting and candy. Each student made their own first... and we put those in our "Custom" car lot. Then we created assembly lines. We realized that we could build trucks faster and better in our assembly lines because we were working together and each person because a "specialist" at their job! Super fun lesson. This packet is full of super fun ideas! I highly recommend it!
Second graders get that it is April Fools day, but they don't get how to really be funny yet. They try to pull off HORRIBLE "pranks" like, pretending to cry and saying, "My dad got bit by a pit bull and died last night" (not kidding I really had a child use this one last year), screaming, "my hand fell off" (whilst holding their hand inside their sleeve) and last year one of my partner teachers even had a kid slap her in the face and yell, "April Fools"! I used to dread this day until I read about the Loof Lipra - and learned how to turn the day around on them!

Some seriously genius person made this up and last year I ran with it. I laughed so hard I almost peed. So, I have every intention of repeating it this year.

The Loof Lirpa (read it backwards) is an amazingly rare bird that has been sighted in the area. He or she loves carrots and has a very distinct call. I wrote this little "newspaper article" about him last year and passed it out to all my kids.

I let them talk about it for a while and then I sent them out into the yard with carrots. They were calling, "loof, loof, wheeee, loof, loof, ahhhhh" and tiptoeing around for a long while. Of course, a few kids saw him. They had so much to say about him. I was cracking up. The kids who didn't see him were pretty sure they might have seen him flying away... it was great.

My kids were MAD at me for a few minutes, and then we laughed about it for the rest of the day. Some of my kids even told me it was their favorite activity of the year at the end of the year.

I have shared my "article" on TPT. It is in PowerPoint so you can edit it as you wish. I changed the date to this year but I like to make it more specific by putting in our school name and naming the paper after our town. http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Loof-Lirpa-April-Fools-Prank-642344

You NEED this!I use my iPhone to take pictures, hundreds and hundreds of pictures. I post some on Facebook and post some here and message a few to people, but mostly I just hoard them in my phone. Then I get a message that my storage is limited and I have to go through the painful process of erasing pictures. Not fun.

I am not a great photographer, but I like have pictures of everyday moments - all the little moments that make up a day, a school year, a life. Most of my pictures are of my own family (I have a lot of kids) but I make sure to take a lot of classroom pictures too - both for instructional and emotional reasons. My kids love it but I wasn't that great about printing them because ink and photo paper is so expensive.

But then...I learned about Groovebook on the show Shark Tank one night. It is the coolest app I have on my phone now. The couple that developed it was trying to get some backing for their product - little photo books they are able to print and ship for $2.99 a piece. They own a printing company and developed a binding method that allows them to ship very inexpensively. I don't even remember what happened on the show, but I went to the app store and added Groovebook that night and I am in LOVE.

You have to sign up for a subscription - which is $2.99 a month. Then you simply upload up to 100 photos a month into the app and a few weeks later you get a cute little book full of your pictures. They are printed on pretty thin paper - so not the heirloom quality, but definitely good enough for scrapbooking or the things we use them for in class. They are perforated and dated above the perforation so you can tear them out or just store them something I love for scrapbooking, because they all stay organized and dated until you are ready to use them. The first book is your monthly $2.99, but you can order as many books as you want a month and they all cost $2.99 - exactly $2.99, - no hidden fees, no taxes, no shipping!!!
I have been ordering a book of my family and one of my class each month for the last couple months. You don't get to pick your own covers, but they are different each month (and cute!).
I am moving to the new STEM Academy in my school district and WE DO NOT HAVE CLASSROOMS. I am <strike>completely</strike> a little bit freaked out about it. We are going to have this amazing state of the art building with learning spaces, amazing technology, beautiful furniture etc., but no traditional classrooms - complete paradigm switch. We will be a PBL campus and I am super duper pumped up about it. In fact, I don't think I have been this excited about teaching ever! I can hardly wait to get started. My new team is amazing, our administrators are the bomb.com, the possibilities are seriously endless... but every once in a while I get a little flicker of sadness about not having my "own" classroom. It's what I know, and change can be hard, but I know the trade off will be totally worth it, but right now I am soaking up my last weeks in MY little ol' room!
Here is what we are up to this week!

We are working with everything fractions in math. I love fractions! We have been having a blast, playing games, making fraction pizzas, playing with Cuisinaire rods and doing activities from Amy Lemon's Become a Fraction Fanatic Pack.
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Become-a-Fraction-Fanatic-1132229
If you haven't purchased this, you should. It is fantastic! Today we wrote about when half is small and when half is huge. I love to see the way they think! They wrote things like half is small when you have half a minute to get down the hall and half is huge when you have to wait a half an hour for lunch when you are hungry... I love them.
In social studies we are beginning our study of wants and needs. I like to introduce it with my Those Shoes unit. The book is precious and sweet and hits a nerve with kids. The little boy in the story has outgrown his tennis shoes. His school counselor gives him a new pair but they have a cartoon character on them from a "little kid" tv show. He is embarrassed because all the other kids seem to have the same "cool" shoes. His grandma explains that they can't afford them but takes him out shopping to try and find a deal. They end up in a resale shop and the boy finds one pair that are too small. His grandma explains that they can't afford to buy shoes that are too small - they have to spend money on what they NEED. The boy decides to buy the shoes with his own saved money and his grandma buys him some boring snow boots. What happens next chokes me up! Go check this book out!
I have been exhausted this year in a way I can't even really explain. I have had a lot of personal stuff get in my way and just haven't been feeling it. I have thought, "I need to blog this", many times but just haven't gotten around to it, but I CANNOT NOT share this!

Do you know Kahoot? If not, you need to. It is the easiest, most fun way to get a quick read of how your students are doing, and they LOVE it. You can easily apply it to ANY subject area and use it during anytime during the day.

It works sort of like bar trivia. You go to getkahoot.com and sign up for an account. It is completely painless, it really only asks your name and email I think. You build a quiz (takes minutes) and give it a name.

You can use it immediately or launch it later. When you choose to launch it, project it and students will be given a game pin.

Students can use any platform to log in - cell phones, iPads, desktops, laptops... whatever! They simply go to the site kahoot.it and type in the game pin and a name or nickname. They do not sign up for an account, no passwords, no logging in (woot-woot).

As they log in, your screen populates so you can tell if everyone is in. Then you start the quiz. The questions pop up on your screen and students answer on their device. If you have a full class set of devices you can do this all at once, or you can do it relay style or in small groups. After each question, a leaderboard is displayed, so students can see who the top 5 are in the room at anytime. It tells them on their own screen where they rank if they are not in the top five. They get points for speed and accuracy. My second graders BEG me to play this everyday. EV-ER-EE single day. But I LOVE it! They are constantly practicing and begging me to do it. Holla!

There is also a handy feature at the end that lets you print out how they did (meaning you can take a grade), and what questions they need to work on. And you can SHARE quizzes. Every time to you launch a quiz it gets a new game pin - so you don't need to worry about other people getting onto your quiz at the same time.

I have used this in EVERY subject now and have only been using it for a week! I have created a government quiz, a few math fact quizzes, a quiz on contractions, the phases of the moon... anything you can make into a multiple choice or true or false answer!

This is LIFE CHANGING people! Seriously. I am in love with Kahoot! Give it a try!
